honor our local veterans Fejer, Stephen "Tony" A. "Most memorable are the men I met in many places, who are and were brothers in arms!" Fortier, Guy A. "My most memorable and proudest moment was when I swore my son, Van Fortier, into the Nevada National Guard in 1986. Now a sergeant, he's completed 23 years of service." Fredric, George C. "Most memorable are the camaraderie and long-term friendships that formed immediately. And the life-long lessons that I learned while in the service are still with me." Fuller, Ted "My most memorable moment was when I was literally getting off the truck in Vietnam, reporting for my duty station, and there was a shower of rockets incoming." Gareffa, Joseph "Joe" J. "The most memorable moment is when I assumed command of a Naval VP squadron at NAS Willow Grove, PA, because it marked the apex of my career." Garfinkle, Buddy "My most memorable moments: One, we were on Okinawa, getting ready to invade Japan, when the bomb went off. That saved us from having to go in. Two, when I got out." Garrity, Frank "Independence Day, or the 4th of July, hold special meanings for me. Of course, it is special because it is the da our great country adopted the Declaration of Independence, declaring independence from Great Britain. As it has evolved over the years since 1776, it has often become just a holiday with 'time off' for almost everyone and often with little thought as to why we celebrate this day. When I think of the men and women who are serving in the Armed Forces, especially in conflicts right now, I know that they are not getting the day off. They are serving their country for the benefit of us all. Our firefighters and police officers will be on duty as well, making sure that things are safe for those who are celebrating. On the 4th, I will take the time to stop and give thanks to God and our founding fathers for giving us this great nation. God Bless the USA!" Harrison, Thomas "My most memorable moment was the day I received my Air Force pilot's wings." Henricks, Jerry M. "My most memorable moment is returning home to San Francisco after a seven-month cruise aboard an aircraft carrier." Holl, Theodore "Ted" E. "My most memorable moment is the first time I landed on a carrier." Hubbart, Ken G. "Most memorable is the camaraderie with the men I worked with on several bases. A strike outfit, we were associated with the Ranger Airborne Unit at Fort Devens." Hyde, Jason C. "My most memorable moment was on Dec. 30, 2004 when I was wounded by an IED (improvised explosive device) in Kirkuk, Iraq." |
